Helping people at home and abroad become devoted followers of Christ
Parish Nursing

Our Parish Nurses' role is to bring spiritual as well as medical support to those in need both within the church & in the community.

What do we do?

Brixworth Christian Fellowship has 2 Parish Nurses, who are unpaid volunteers who usually work 2 days a week. Much of their time is spent on individual visits, often to isolated, lonely or bereaved people, ensuring they have the appropriate support and advice.

Prayer & communion, hospital follow-up & sign-posting to facilities are all part of the service to the community.

Confidentiality is maintained at all times as with the nursing code of practice.

Group work takes place including Chairobics (armchair exercises) at Boniface & Saxon House, Brixworth, a mums & tots group called "Olive Shoots" at the Community Centre, Brixworth, Thursday mornings (school term time at 10-11.30am) & occasionally a new mothers & babies activity with the local health visitor.

Our Parish Nurses also take clients to hospital & stay with them, or to the doctors, dentist & opticians appointments, as well as offering support in other ways.

Our 2 Parish Nurses are CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checked, maintain their professional registration & update their knowledge by attending courses & conferences. They are linked to Parish Nurses Ministries UK who train & monitor British Parish Nurses & are in turn linked to an International body. They have clinical & spiritual supervision regularly, which ensures good practice (see link to PNM UK.)

Funding for expenses is provided by Brixworth Christian Fellowship & donations. Brixworth Drama Group have been very supportive in 2009.
